Allergies, Histamine, and Mast Cells

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

Allergies are a very unpleasant experience; such as, food allergies, seasonal allergies, mold sensitivity, migraines, rashes, and itching. It's important to also cover the unusual histamine-related symptoms; which include brain fog, IBS, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, racing heart, palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, tiredness, anxiety, irritability, and depression. Itchy and watery eyes, a stuffed-up nose, and sneezing is seen mostly in the spring as new growth occurs in nature; where there are new buds, flowers, and when pollen begins to proliferate . These symptoms are linked to histamine imbalance. As many know, the over-the-counter antihistamine medications often do not help to relieve those irritating symptoms. Many people feel the need to take these medications all year long in order to get relief from their symptoms. Studies are showing that chronic use of antihistamines contributes to worsening allergy symptoms; and, more severe issues like dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson’s.

It's important to discover the root cause of these symptoms; and, it is likely due to a problem with histamine. When histamine is out of balance in the body, it is usually due to the overproduction, ingestion, or compromised ability to clear and detoxify it. It is also important to consider and explore stress, gut issues, microbiome imbalance, a lack of methylation support, compromised detoxification, and exposure to mold, pesticides, and glyphosate.

Diet and histamine

It's a good idea to examine your diet for foods that are high in histamine. Yes! That means even "healthy foods"; like, eggs, avocado, and fermented foods. These foods can exacerbate symptoms.

High-histamine foods (highest to lowest):

Fermented foods: Sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, kefir, Miso, soy sauce, and tempeh. These foods are high in histamine because histamine-producing bacteria are involved in the fermentation process.

Aged cheeses: Parmesan, blue cheese, cheddar, and other aged cheeses contain high levels of histamine (histamine is produced as the cheese ages).

Smoked or cured meats: Bacon, sausage, salami, and other smoked or cured meats. These contain high levels of histamine because the smoking and curing processes create histamine.

Shellfish: Shellfish (shrimp, crab, and lobster) are high in histamine because they contain histidine. Histidine can be converted to histamine in the body (if the shellfish is not fresh).

Alcoholic beverages: Wine, beer, and champagne contain histamine. During the fermentation process histamine is produced.

Dried fruits: Raisins, prunes, figs, and other dried fruits are high in histamine as they are often stored for long periods, causing histamine to accumulate.

Leftovers: As food sits in the refrigerator for a few days, it begins to produce histamine (similar to fermented foods), and could be a trigger for those that are sensitive.

Work to discover the worse offending foods for you and remove them for a period of time. This allows the terrain to reset. Support the gut and microbiome and allow the overall load to ease.

Pesticides and Glyphosate

In the spring the dandelions pop up and the grass begins to grow (including golf courses and parks),and the pesticide spraying begins. The use of pesticides and the impact it has on the environment (and you) is often over looked. Click here to learn more.

Protocol Suggestions and Considerations

  1. Methyl B12 Liposome and Liposome B Coenzyme Complex Liquid - Methylation support is imperative as the body eliminates the hormone histamine by methylation and the liver is responsible for breaking it down.

  2. Solray D - Studies reveal that children and adults that took vitamin D experienced less severe symptoms of allergy and asthma requiring steroid inhalers. (Study published March 24, 2023, in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology).

  3. Baicalin (Chinese) Skullcap -.Baicalin is a bioflavonoid extract from Chinese Skullcap that provides potent immune cell function support. Chinese Skullcap supports the linings of blood vessels and aids in robust immune system response and balanced cytokine production.

  4. ZINC-Orotate Liposome Composite - contains quercetin (provides powerful antihistamine support), Turkey Tail and Green Tea extract (both recognized for antiviral support) and Zinc Orotate/Bisglycinate Chelate (immune supportive and bioavailable).

  5. Sambucus Intrinsic - imperative for histamine-related issues (especially itchy eyes and/or ears).

  6. Aller-Tox 1 - indicated for food-related allergies and sensitivities.

  7. Aller-Tox 2 - indicated for environmental and airborne allergies.

  8. Adrenal support is foundational when dealing with allergies. Support with Adrenal LF, Adreno Code, Camu Camu, Alkalize C, Magnesium Bis-Glycinate, and Vitamin B5.

The addition of Glutathione Liposome for detoxification and liver support is always a great idea.

GPS-Tox for glyphosate pesticide issues is highly recommended. Pesticide-Tox is a multi-frequency homeopathic combination that temporarily relieves symptoms associated with pesticide exposure sensitivities.

As a holistic healthcare provider I use the best supplements for my clients. These supplements cannot be purchased at your local health food store or Whole Foods. The company I use provides their supplements to licensed practitioners only. I have provided some information about this company below.

The Union of Art and Science

Metabolic and energetic pathways must be carefully and expertly balanced to create a product which addresses the concerns of body, mind, and heart. Whereas certain ingredients may be scientifically researched and well known for their healing potential, when they are combined into a complex formula they may create energetic conflicts as well as metabolic imbalances. This is where the “art” of formulation plays such a significant role.

The successful, synergistic blending of art and science results in a product which is sound both in heaven (physics) and in earth (chemistry), as the old masters of alchemy used to describe it.
